1970 original RTSE Triple black Hemi Challenger; auto slapstick,3:23 8-3/4" sure grip rear end, vinyl roof, formal rear window, leather front seating, overhead console, dog dish hub caps, stripe delete, power hood, rallye dash, dealer installed rear wing front spoilers. I am the second owner, I purchased it in 1981. I believe it is one of 36 RTSE auto Hemi Challengers produced in 1970. With the stripe delete and triple black and spoiler package it is pretty rare. Odometer reading between 39k and 40k.

1966 BASE Coronet 2 door sedan HEMI 4 SPEED - 1 of 11 built in 1966.

The below description is as honest as I believe I can be about this car.
This car is a California/Arizona car.

THE CAR FROM THE FACTORY:
This is a BASE model (read cheapest available) Coronet 2 door sedan factory 4 speed car, built with the 426 Hemi option and all that came with this option. The Hemi option included the Hemi 18 spline 4 speed transmission, H.D. police brakes and suspension (later marketed as the HEMI suspension) and the Dana 9 3/4" 3.54:1 geared rear end (when equipped with the 4 speed) and Sure Grip was required with the 4 speed/Dana combination. A radio was an option and this car was not ordered with one. In fact, this car was ordered with no other options at all, as bare bones, all business race car as you could buy in 1966.

RARITY:
1966 was the first year the street version of the 426 dual quad Hemi engine was available in a car for sale. They built 2698 Hemi B bodies including Dodges and Plymouths. It was available in all B body models including 4 doors except wagons. The way Chrysler Corp. broke down their production numbers they kept track of for all their cars was to first show the model, (first 4 digits of the V.I.N.) then the engine, then the transmission. There was no further break down. This car is a WE21H model that indentifies it as W=Dodge Coronet, E=Economy (base) model price class, 21=2 door sedan, and the 5th digit H=426 hemi engine. They built 34 of these cars. 23 were auto trans and 11 were 4 speeds. SO, THIS CAR IS ONE OF ELEVEN. Keep this in mind when considering your bid and comparing it to other 66/67 Hemi cars. Most people today when buying one of these car want either an option loaded Coronet 500 OR a stripped down no option, sleeper/street racer type car. This car is the latter. The higher models over the BASE Coronet, the Deluxe and the 440, not so much demand, but were both factored into the comps that determined my price. The RARITY of my car is NOT factored into these comps.

THE CAR TODAY: This car was ordered to be a strip car only and was never titled or licensed until I bought it. It has a Box A title (actual miles) with 3661 miles. That is 36 HUNDRED miles NOT thousand. The car was not owned by any big name know racer and in fact the original paint had no lettering, stickers, or any signs of sponsorship. Just a guy that wanted to go weekend racing. The car was never tubbed, cut, or roll barred. I added floor contured frame connectors that look like they are factory. The car still has the factory installed Hemi engine, police (Hemi) suspension, (except torsion bars) police brakes, Dana rear end, but a 1968 vintage Hemi 4 speed. See below for additional specifics/modifications on all of this.

The car came from the factory with a heater but it was remove early enough in its life that the heater control block off plate was still available, purchased,and installed. I still have the heater and it could be reinstalled if you want it for street driving.
I bought this car with the intentions of continuing it strip duty racing but can't bring myself to install a roll bar in it required by the kind of E.T. that will require it. So, I offer it for sale so the next owner can make that decision.

PAINT: The car has some scrapes and scratches and is not a show paint job but plenty enough respectable for a driver or strip car. It is the original factory paint color of medium turquoise metallic with matching turquoise interior per the fender tag and broadcast sheet.

INTERIOR:
1. NOS seat material sewn in the original pattern. 2. Door panels and arm rest are original and are rated 8 out of 10 in condition. 3. New replacement rubber floor mat. 4. Original factory no radio, and heater delete controls block off plates. 5. Custom mounted Autometer white face tac, oil, and temp. gauges mounted on the steering column. 6. NOS replacement speedometer--original broken due to previous 5:13.1 gears.

GLASS:
1. Original date coded clear glass. 2. All glass is original INCLUDING the windshield with no cracks. When was the last time you saw an original 44 year old windshield in virgin condition?

SHEET METAL:
1. This is an all original sheet metal, no rust, no accident, California/Arizona car. 2. It is not undercoated and all of the virgin under body metal can be seen with ease. 3. When the original, cracked, smelly, rubber floor mat was pulled up, it took about 1/2 of the interior surface metal in the front floor pans with it in a big sheet. The car had leaked at the wiper posts (still does) and water had collected in the jute backing and rotted the front floor pans at the lowest points (where you put your feet) ONLY. This is not visable from under the car. I chose to fiberglass mat and resin this area on the inside for strength rather than replace the floor pans in this area as it is only visable if you pull the rubber floor mat. If you wanted to replace the front floor pans it would not be that big of a deal, but I chose to let it show from the underside as "untouched." The only other rust on this car is a small amount under the battery tray from battery acid leaking.

TRIM:
What there is on this economy model, 1. The bumpers have been rechromed. 2. The grille and surrrounds have been refinished. There is a small ding in the left surround from someone recently backing into it at a repair shop. 3. The front and rear glass trim is very nice. 4. One front fender Coronet script emblem has the end broken off.
TIRES AND WHEELS:
1. Black steel REAR wheels 15" X 7" with factory chrome lug nuts. 2. 9" Slicks--NHRA stock class legal with tubes. 3. PR205 X14" radial front tires. 4. Although not shown on the car, I have a very nice set of 4 original hub caps for the car that go with it, AND an extra hood and Hemi hood scoop.

DOCUMENTATION:
1. Numbers matching title, V.I.N. tag, fender tag, and broadcast sheet. 2. Fender tag and broadcast sheet match the S.O. # on the radiator core support. 3. First title for this car is in my name, "A" box original miles at 3661 miles. 4. Original V.I.N. tag indicating model and engine, as does the fender tag and the broadcast sheet. 5. Letter from Chrysler Historical regarding IBM card request.
DECODING:
I have Galen Govier's white books and have decoded the fender tag, broadcast sheet and inspected the car for all of the telltale items to satisfy any neighsayers.

WHAT HAS BEEN DONE:
ENGINE:
1. ORIGINAL ENGINE date code correct for the build time of the car. (they did not put the V.I.N. on the engine in 1966) 2. Complete NHRA Stock Eliminator class legal rebuild The engine is balanced, blueprinted, and built to maximum potential for the class. $20K was spent doing so. 3. Original intake without heat riser tubes. 4. Original rebuilt 66 Hemi carbs, no choke. 5. Original 66 Hemi air cleaner. 6. Original recored 66 Hemi radiator. 7. Hooker Super Comp Headers. 8. Full exhaust with turn down tail pipes at the rear. 9. X pipe and side dumps at the front bypassing the remaining system for opened headers. 10. MSD distributor, wires, and 6AL box. 11. This car should run low 11s--high 10s as it sits.
TRANS: 1. A 1968 rebuilt, slick shifted, original Chrysler Hemi 18 spline 4 speed trans. 2. New Hurst Competition Plus shifter. 3. A new short throw "E" body Pistol Grip shifter handle. I have an original Inland shifter handle that goes with the car for those that want to put it back in.
CLUTCH: 1. Ram Clutches 10.5" 1200 lb. adjustable clutch set up. 2. Lakewood blowproof scattershield.
REAR END: 1. Original 1966 Dana rear end completely rebuilt. 2. Detroit Locker. 3. 4.56:1 gears.
BRAKES: 1. The master cylinder has been upgraded to a dual cylinder for safety at the end of the end of the 1/4 mile. I have a NOS in the box single master cylinder that comes with the car. 2. The original H.D. police brakes have had the drums turned, new brake linings, new hardware kits, new rubber brake lines, and new wheel cylinders.
SUSPENSION: 1. Hemi torsion bar replaced with lighter weight bars for better weight transfer. 2. Custom fit to floor pan frame connectors. 3. Adjustable pinion snubber. 4. Adjustable H.D. racing shocks. 5. Replaced original 40 year old fatiqued Hemi suspension rear leaf springs with original spec new springs. 6. Polygraphite suspension items replacing the original rubber. THIS CAR SIMPLY LIFTS, HOOKS, AND FLIES DOWN THE TRACK STRAIGHT!!

I hesitate to refer to this car as either restored or a survivior as it is a little of each but does not qualify in my opinion as either. This was not a rotisserie restored car, but rather replacing/repaired keeping the car as original as possible. It is not a rotisserie restoration as the front clip was never removed, but the entire drivetrain WAS removed, as well as all of the suspension leaving just the body shell. The underside was repainted in an original type primer paint look. It is not a paint dobb, grease pencil, cosmoline coating restoration. Rebuilt assemblies were painted without consideration to these silly things. If that is what you are looking for keep moving, it is not this car.

Just as a Realtor sets the price, by reviewing current like homes asking prices. The pricing sources I reviewed on 06/11/2010 were Hemming, Cars On Line, Auto Trader Classics, Moparts, The Coronet Registry, and For B Bodies Only. I looked at 66-67 Hemi 4 speed B bodies only. REAL cars only, no tribute cars. All models, post and hardtops. All were running, driveable, repectable cars. Some were survivors with original paint (read probably will need paint) some were restored cars.

Similar to Realtors who throw out the inorinately low and high price, I took it one step further and threw out the top THREE high priced cars that ranged from $125K - $195K and did NOT throw out the lowest priced one. I also did NOT use any RO/WO (factory package race cars) in these comps. So, if you are looking for a 1966-67 Hemi b body my price is FAIR especially when you consider the condition and rarity of MY car that is not factored into the comps. Anyone that has done one of these old cars and has checked parts prices will know that to make a tribute car in the same condition as mine they would have $50K PLUS in it with a CRATE engine, and when they were done the car would be worth the sum total of the parts. Buy a REAL car and you will always have something of added value over a tribute car. With all of this in mind the average price is $70500. and that is what I want for the car.

I have an original Mr. Norm's Challenger T/A that is for sale. This is a unique Mr. Norm's car with all 2 owner history that has never been offered for sale before.I thought this would be the perfect website for it

The car is an EV2 (HEMI Orange) with Burnt Orange Interior. Black Vinyl top.340 Six Pack with a 4 speed. 3:91 Posi. Manual Steering. Power Disc Brakes. Bucket seats and floor shifted console. Standard dash with a Sun column mounted tach done by Mr. Norm's. 2nd owner added a Rally Dash in 1973. Front Chin Spoilers. Rear Spoiler. Rear window Defogger Dealer installed. Trunk light, Dealer installed. Painted racing door mirrors. This car was ordered with 15X7 Steel wheels with Gog Dish caps and Trim Rings. I have the original G-60-15's and the E-60 -15' Tires. They are worn But I have the original patina tires and wheels. This car has the 85 % of the original exhaust. All floors and trunk are mint originals. It has the original T/A deck lid and fenders. It has the original qtrs. The Six pack still has the mechanical carb linkage on it and the original Dual Poaint Dist that was curved. This car has the original door panels. Seats covers are Legendary's.( I have the originals also. This car has the original matching numbers engine and carbs.

This car was stolen off the Storage lot before it was sold new. It is Documented with the date it was stolen from Mr. Norm's. There is every piece of dealer paperwork. Adavnced shipping notice. 2 build sheets. All three bill of sales. The original order card etc. This car had one re paint in 1980. It still shines good.This car runs and drives exec. It has all the original water pump or any parts that were ever repalced etc. All owner names and history are included. Car has been stored in Michigan since August 1972 and was taken care of like a first born Royal Child to a throne.

**Wanted info on this car**

1964 Dodge 330 Max Wedge aluminum nose race car, it was purchases by Ben Small in 1964 at Mr. Norm’s Grand Spalding Dodge. It was used as a stealth street race through the 1960’s and brought to California in the mid 70’s by Robert Johnson. When Mr. Johnson bought the car it had a blown engine and only 1400 miles on the car. Mr. Johnson carefully owned this car for the next 36 years before entering my collection with only 31K miles on the odometer. We are trying to gather information on this fine piece of Chrysler history for a focus article on the history of drag racing in the 1960’s. From what we were told this car use only used for street/drag racing on the back roads of Chicago and it had quite a notorious reputation.

This Max Wedge still retains its original paint and interior. On its aluminum front fenders the original owner wrote “DO NOT TOUCH” and besides the replacement motor it is in “as raced” condition.

Any info will be helpful and full written credit will be given to anyone that can supply information or photos of this awesome and rare factory race car.

Factory original 1965 WO51 Super Stock Hemi Dodge sold by Mr. Norm’s Grand Spaulding Dodge. It was part of the second shipment of 1965 Super Stocks sent to Mr. Norm’s on April 27, 1965. Total Dodge production was only 101 cars and there are not many survivors. This Dodge was 1 of only 4 that was painted EE1 Dark Blue.

It appears the car was raced originally & then sold by Mr. Norm’s Grand Spaulding Dodge on 07/21/66. I have copies of the dealer paperwork, along with the IBM car that was supplied from Chrysler. So there is no doubting the status of this car. This is the real deal & not some well hidden clone.

The end result you see here is the result of a complete restoration, with an emphasis on restoring it to its original condition. While trying to use original or NOS parts whenever possible. The body has been refinished in factory EE-1 Dark Blue Metallic (original color) with the L1T Light Tan color interior. Currently I have aftermarket wheels on it, but I do have a set of the original steel wheels if you would like to have the stock look.

Because of its early racing history, the original engine is long gone. However, a new Ray Barton MP 528ci (610HP/650 ft lbs torque) hemi has been recently installed.
